By Sister Norma Raupple When Marta arrived for Sunday Brunch Aug. 29, she found Stephanie and I in the backyard investigating the space behind the shed. Stephanie discovered squash growing and a black walnut tree with a few nuts on it. What a surprise! Stephanie also returned bearing rose bushes and a fern she'd been caring for. We'd dug them up in order to transplant them. After our gardening activity, we enjoyed a leisurely brunch and shared a few of our memorable experiences: the first days as a Freshman at YSU for Marta, the first week as Service Coordinator at Elms Apartment in Warren for Stephanie, and my first week at Angela's Villa putting things in place in a beautiful space. Not being a techie, I sought the ladies' advise on what kind of TV to buy and where to put it. We also watched the short video posted online by Fr. James Martin, SJ, about the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Ky. Sisters Margaret and Paula, both Nurse Practitioners, were murdered in Mississippi recently. We were saddened by their deaths but also inspired by the witness of their lives. We prayed for them at our morning prayer after reflecting on the Parable of the Banquet from the day's Gospel. We hope to become a faith Community where many come to our table. Sister Norma What a beautiful summer day to host each other at Angela’s Villa for our first Sunday Mass and Brunch. Four of us met at St. Christine Church for 9 a.m. Mass and two others joined us later. The uplifting music brought the liturgy alive for us. Everyone felt at home immediately because of our time washing windows, cleaning kitchen cabinets and re-finishing furniture. A few of us prepared the eggs, toast and fruit while others visited leisurely. Sister Nancy Pawlen joined us and added to the spirited conversation about our pets and took some great photos. See video below! Our time together included the sharing of our faith and life experiences with each other. We read a short talk by Pope Francis, “The Threshold of Faith." We offered our reflection and prayed for each other as the new semester begins. Several young women will be doing student teaching. Others are studying for either a Bachelors or Masters degree. Two are interns or starting a new job. Thank you to those who upgraded our house and made it like new, ready for us to create a home. Special thanks to Peggy Eicher, Director of Personnel and her staff of workers. They have provided us with a spacious all-purpose room as well as a beautiful and comfortable living space. The young women who serve with us will gather to study and pray, prepare meals and have fun, and thus create a vibrant community. Gatherings at Angela's Villa began this morning! Young Adults involved in our ministries will gather here with Sisters for faith sharing, fellowship and fun. Sunday brought brunch and prayer after morning Mass. |
