The Ursuline community ran into fall -- literally!
We kicked off October with the fourth annual Nun Run benefiting the Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry. Rainy weather didn’t hinder an amazing turn out or racers’ participation. A new women’s record was set and basket raffle winners went home with great prizes. Even more exciting than the records and prizes, however, was the community of people who came together to support an incredible ministry.
The Nun Run is unique in the way it brings volunteers, administration, staff and Sisters from all ministries together under one roof. As a volunteer for Potter’s Wheel and friend of Angela’s Villa, I hardly ever see fellow Ursuline community members outside of those little bubbles. At the Nun Run, I was reunited with old friends from Angela’s Villa, Sisters I hadn’t seen for a while, and introduced to people I had never met with other ministries. I was so excited to see so many people supporting such a great cause.
On Oct. 6, we ran for the HIV/AIDS ministry, but every day, Sisters, staff and volunteers are running not only for HIV/AIDS but for all the Ursuline ministries. The community of people needed to create positive effects in the Mahoning Valley are scattered all over Youngstown and the world. For one day, many of these people were in the same room -- which is something truly special to stop and think about.
I am thankful that this event gave me the opportunity to reconnect, run and remember the reason the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown community is so important.
