I continue meditating on ways I can make a difference after attending “Anti-Racism at the Crossroads” with Sisters Pat Chappell and Anne Louise Nadeau.
More than 30 people gathered for an eight-hour training a week ago.
Sisters of the Humility of Mary and Ursuline Sisters and Associates partnered with ACTION to bring the training to the Mahoning Valley.
Sisters Pat and Anne Louis explained how racism is embedded in all social systems.
Through a small-group process, the participants chose to focus on the Health Care and Education systems. We compared traditional values to transformational values as they are related to the systems.
These included:
Scarcity vs. Abundance
Secrecy vs. Communication
Either/Or vs. Both/ And
Individualism vs. Common Good
We challenged each other to arrive at a clear, do-able action related to these values. We'll gather again May 22 to continue this important work.
