When Marta arrived for Sunday Brunch Aug. 29, she found Stephanie and I in the backyard investigating the space behind the shed. Stephanie discovered squash growing and a black walnut tree with a few nuts on it. What a surprise!
Stephanie also returned bearing rose bushes and a fern she'd been caring for. We'd dug them up in order to transplant them.
After our gardening activity, we enjoyed a leisurely brunch and shared a few of our memorable experiences: the first days as a Freshman at YSU for Marta, the first week as Service Coordinator at Elms Apartment in Warren for Stephanie, and my first week at Angela's Villa putting things in place in a beautiful space.
Not being a techie, I sought the ladies' advise on what kind of TV to buy and where to put it.
We also watched the short video posted online by Fr. James Martin, SJ, about the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Ky. Sisters Margaret and Paula, both Nurse Practitioners, were murdered in Mississippi recently. We were saddened by their deaths but also inspired by the witness of their lives.
We prayed for them at our morning prayer after reflecting on the Parable of the Banquet from the day's Gospel. We hope to become a faith Community where many come to our table.
