As four of us recently gathered for an autumn Brunch, we shared a poem by Macrina Wiederkehr from Circle of Life entitled “Listening to Autumn.”
Here’s just a sample of the contemplative words:
Autumn is slipping through Summer’s branches and I am listening. I am listening to the dying flowing forth from autumn’s being, I am listening to the life hidden in the dying. (You can read the entire poem at annsplace.org)
We each shared our own stories of autumn and consulted with each other about the possibilities other seasons could bring for us -- such as what’s needed to plan for a community garden next spring. Janie, who’s also one of our AmeriCorps employees, will investigate this.
Stephanie always has such helpful answers to many of our questions. Today she advised me to preserve basil in ice cubes.
Marta asked us for suggestions and materials to assist her in teaching her Special Education CCD class. Each week is different as we bring ourselves and our weekly life experiences to our new community at Angela’s Villa.
