After a long, dangerous journey, families arrived on a bus from ICE. They had to pass a COVID test then wait in line for a toothbrush and toothpaste. What a wide gap of needs we have! I was humbled when this image came to me.
Yeison and Nakuri, their one-year-old son and twelve-year-old daughter, arrived in Charlotte, NC from Texas where they joined 10 cousins in an apartment. They may still have their toothbrushes, but they are asking for help finding work in order to buy food, clothes and a mat to sleep on.
In the U.S. today, brave, healthy, faith-filled adults have arrived who are eager to work. There are employers who need dependable workers, but there's no infrastructure connecting them with each other.
I pray:
Lead us from Death to Life, from Falsehood to Truth.
Lead us from Despair to Hope, from Fear to Trust.
Lead us from Hate to Love, from War to Peace.
Let peace fill our hearts, our world, our universe.
Amen.
